The movement of landless rural workers (MST), closed this April 17th the BR020 highway at the town of Madalena, 180 km away from Fortaleza. The action is part of the protests in memorium of the 12th anniversary of the "Eldorados dos Carajas" massacre. The demonstration was fruit of a national coordination effort, and took place in several states of the country during this same day. It is the International day of the land struggle and land reform. Both are part of the "National struggle journey", a month of intensification in the social struggle.

At Ceara, not only the highways BR020 and 116, but also four farms at the towns of "Boa Viagem", "Senador Pompeu", "Itapiúna" and "Umirim" were occupied. At "Madalena" several families of different locations came together and are waiting for more to come. The demonstration took place at 9h in the morning, with a march until downtown. Nineteen workers beared crosses to symbolize the deads of "Eldorado". Papers and panflets were hand out to the population. According to the movement, about 800 people colaborated, among them militants and volunteers.

Local actions took place at the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Distrito Federal, Pernambuco, Sergipe, Alagoas, Roraima e Pará.

The massacre took place at "Eldorado dos Carajás" in April 17th, 1996 in the state of Pará. The police killed 19 rural workers and left 69 mutilated and several wounded. According to the mouvement, from the 155 policemen involved, all are still unpunished and the families received no indenization.

Teachers, parents and students of the State School Professor Fidelino Figueiredo, are upset by the abusive article published this Thursday (April 10th) in the famous newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo. A public act against the newspaper's irresponsibility took place this Thursday, April 10th. The act also offered its support to the free and public school system.

In the article, the newspaper's journalist Paulo Sampaio accuses the students of robbery and incites the rivalty among "poor againt rich" schools. Against such accusations, about 40 protesters demanded the publication of a response letter .

During the act, an irresponsible driver ran over a protester that was trying to organize the traffic for the safety of the parents, teachers and, most of all, students. Luckily, the accident resulted only on a bruise and the victim was taken care at the Santa Casa Orthopedic Hospital.

Groups linked to the Liga dos Camponeses Pobres (League of Poor Countrymen) have denounced a real massacre held on a landless camp in Rondônia last April 9th. According to the informations, 15 people were murdered by gunmen and sereval are disappeared. The camp that got totally destroyed was located in Catâneo's area in Jacinópolis, 400 km far from Porto Velho.

Almost 100 of the campers that escaped are located on the edge of the highway close to the area, while many others went to nearby cities. Local authorities would be directly involved in the attack, taking support organizations to contact several federal instances, without any positive result so far.

The Government of Uribe has humilliated the equatorian people by invading its territory and stealing corpses in its territory. Now it submits the equatorian government to lies and fake police set-ups. It is absurd to state that Raul Reyes was in Equador - near the borders - running away or hiding, for it is known that his location was in Putumayo - Equador months ago to meet the delegates from France and Piedad Cordoba. In fact, after some meetings with the french, he was bombed in 2005 on Colombian soil, and a month later authorities accused France from "intervention" in Colombia. In august 2007, the camp site where Reyes had just met with Piedad Cordoba was bombed; Reyes almost died, and, had he died then, an stop to the process which freed Clara Rojas, Consuelo González, Jorge Eduardo Gachem, Gloria Polanco, Luis Eladio Perez and Orland Beltran would occur.

Those in favor of Uribe now want to declare a triumph and abort the humanitarian agreement, on another country's sovereignty expenses, perhaps smaller but with greater dignity, telling Uribe to stop with the lying, the deceiving and the lack of respect. Believing they were the new south-american Israel, planes and colombian troops not only have operated on open skies and equatorian land, but also have taken corpses which were on Equador without waiting for equatorian action, disdaining all common investigation and evidences. When Equador answered with serene and wise dignity, the Uribian movement, to justify itself, insulted the equatorian government with preposterous lies. President Correa stated that his country will do whatever it takes to face this never-ending outrage. The political prisoner Cesare Battisti had his first audience of his process of extradition in the Supreme Court of Justice (STF, in its acronym in Portuguese), this Friday, January 18th, in Brasilia. The STF is judging an extradition request made by the Italian government, which accuses Battisti of participation in four homicides in the 70's, in Italy ? crimes for which he is charged with a life-long imprisonment sentence. He was arrested in Rio de Janeiro on the March 18 th in one operation coordinated in collaboration with the French police.

Battisti is accused in Italy for four homicides that were allegedly committed by the organization he belonged, the Armed Proletarians for Communism, a self-defence group linked to the Italian autonomous movement. Battisti alleges no participation at all in those homicides, defending that the legal demand that condemned him was biased (based upon testimonies forced by torture and rewarded denounces), which was judged devoid of the necessary attention. He alleges that, according to articles of the Italian media, the French government exchanged the extradition of Italian political refugees for the Italian vote in the European Constitutional Treaty, Italia's participation in the acquisition process of Airbus and the authorization for the French train enterprise TGV to operate in the itinerary Lyon-Turin.

Battisti's defence alleges that his extradition has not a legal support, given that he was condemned to a life-long imprisonment sentence and his judgment in Italy was political. In december 2005 the STF refused the extradition of another former Italian autonomiest militant, Pietro Mancini, whose sentence, according to the STF's interpretation, had a political motivation.

Since October 26th, UFPE students have occupied the Dean's Office to request the abolishment of the Universities' Council (Consuni) decision, that has approved it's integration with REUNI (Federal Universities' restructuring and expansion plan). The Council, aside from voting and approving in a arbitrarily manner REUNI's implementation on the university, has also done it without giving the academic community any access to discussions about the Program, which brings a variety of modifications to Public University.

On Saturday 27th, the Dean came to the Dean's office to talk with its occupants. There occurred a vast and democratic debate. However, Amaro Lins behaved in an evasive manner, avoiding, when convenient, all questioning aroused by the students; he kept an defensive conduct and didn't attend to the most important cause of the movement: the revokation of REUNI.

According to the Dean, REUNI was approved for UFPE, but would supossed to be discussions with the academic community in order to deal with all matters regarding the program's implementation.

On October 24th, Ecuador's president Rafael Correa has granted Petrobras a environmental license to explore oil on Bloco 31, located inside Yasuní National Park. This park is located on the amazon region from Ecuador, an ancient territory from indians Waorani and people on voluntary solitude.

Around 3,000 Waorani indians, added to at least 1,000 Tagaeri and Taromenane indians, live on this region and may loose their lands, natural resources, plus the risk of contracting infirmities from the oil explorers, amongst other fatalities. This action affects also the area, which is considered a biosphere reserve by Unesco (United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture).

This action can be mirrored in the mercenary Ecuadorian oil exploration, which has been occurring for the last 30 years. This political behavior, now transferred to Brazil, was practiced by many American companies and kept alive due to capitalists interests inside America. In 1981, Ecuadorian president Jaime Roldós Aguilera, elected two years before, was killed in a plane crash after refusing to cooperate with the international proposals of oil exploration. Within the same year, the message was extended to Panama: president Omar Torrijos, whose politics faced American interests, died in another plane crash.

Social Movements from Ecuador are active and have made manifestations in front of the President's house, demanding that the government deny this environmental license to Petrobras. An international campaign for the same cause is being arranged.

On last wednesday, October 17th, around 120 students have occupied the academic center of Parana's Federal University. The activists have demanded that REUNI (Reestructurarion and Expasion Plan on Federal Universities) should not be discussed in the Universities Council, and that this program's approval should be submitted to general and popular elections, throughout the entire academic community.

According to the students, the Universities Council isn't well represented enough for this project's approval, for nearly 70% of the council's seats are destinated to the teachers and only 30% to actual students and technicians. Another claim is a Dean-signed document, assuring the existence of general elections and stopping the discussions about REUNI in the Universities Council, for without the realization of those demands, the occupation remains for undefinite time.

On Friday, Dean Carlos Augusto Moreira has granted an collective interview with the presence of the DCE (Student's Directory) Directors from UFPR, which supported the Dean's decision to ask for a authoritie's reintegration, which was accepted in the same day by Joao Pedro Gebran Neto, judge from the Federal's Justice at 7th Court.

On this Monday, October 15th, based on the anti-terrorism law, a police operation has arrested 17 activists in New Zealand. This operation has involved over 300 policemen and it ocurred all over the country, invading homes and social gatherings with warrants of search and aprehension. The police also has detained around 60 people for its interrogatory. All the activists who were arrested works on local movements like the Tino Rangatiratanga (ethnic moviment Maori), of peace and environmental.

The activists are being accused of a variety of allegations like the ownership of guns, participion on terrorist groups and even a presumed "war training tactis". For all the activists bail has been denied and they remain under custody. According to local and commercial media, this action was a result of "several month's work" from the anti-terrorist unity which posesses "hundreds of recorded hours of wired conversations, video surveilance, wired mobiles and texts".

In face of such agression, activist from at least three cities are organizing a campaing against repression. Meetings have been arranged and a protest in solidarity to the arrested activists will happen in Melbourne, Australia. On June this year, a similar operation ocurred in Germany, based by the anti-terrorism law to repress the anti-capitalist movement programmed to occur on the eve of G8's meeting.

Friday October 26th, was the national fighting day for free passes. Announced by the Free Pass Movement, this was the third following year that the day was marked with protests on the streets.

Opposing the coorporate media, that gives prominence to the "flighting chaos", the MPL (in Portuguese, Movimento Passe Livre) turns its attention to the 35 million people that, in accordance with the Cities Ministry, do not use collective transports due to the lack of money to pay the taxes; remembers also that the queues on the bus stops and the overcrowded buses.

The MPL demands that the transportation system becomes gratuitous, financed by taxes charged from the richer part of population, which benefits with the transportion system that takes workers to their place of work. The movement also defends that decisions to this matter ought to be taken away from the transportation's executives.

In a action planned by the Public Security Secretary of Rio de Janeiro, that counted with 1300 military police and agents of the National Security Force, the state government promoted a slaughtering in the German Complex on last wednsday, june 27th, executing 19 people. So far there is no evidence that there were confrontation with drug dealers, but a classical military operation of circling and annihilation, with orders of not make prisioners. Only two people were arrested.

The corporate media is trying to diminish the atrocity by given notability to the apprehension of drugs an arms and to resistance of the drug dealers. The city elite, worried about it's own security at any cost, reads and applauds the news. Police officers speaks proudlly about the killing and are presented as real heroes. One of them actually said that this was all a "joke" in which they shoot like "hunting dukes".

Since 1990 (the Acari Mothers case) the poor population of Rio had been traumatized by slaughtering perpetraded by the police, but most of the time the State tried to self acquit. The University's dean?s office remains occupied since last Thursday morning, June 15th, when about 200 protesters occupied the building. The main claims are: the building of university accommodations, the open of more vacancies for educators to fulfill the university?s need of professors, the end of the posts for the Open University and amplify the traditional education, cancelling the privatization process of the University Hospital Cassiano Antonio de Morais and broaden the University Restaurant.

The chancellor Rubens Rasseli, via the press correspondent Luiz Vital, tried to book a meeting with the protesters by creating a student's commission. However, they have refused and decided in a deliberative assembly (which took place on the night of Saturday 16) that they will talk to the dean in a public audience. Furthermore they have also decided for banning of the 7 security guards responsible for the patrimony that where filming and photographing the activities occurred in the building with mobile phones. The dean declared on the local press that the security that still remains in front of the building can contact the federative police at any time to intervene in the occupation.

The press correspondent warned the protesters that any damage against the public patrimony is of the students? full responsibility. The students camped are reinforcing the building vigilance in order to prevent any sabotage, specially after the threatening received from the university security supervisions regarding the maintenance of the public patrimony. The Sunday 17 had a specific schedule and at the end of the day an assembly was held in order to discuss the activities perpetrated during the week.
